Archi bikes come to Christchurch

Archi has opened in Christchurch, selling their own-branded mamachari and fixies. Archi was born (in traditional kiwi style) over a beer. Three friends, one of whom had lived in Japan, decided to bring a bit of Japanese cycling culture to New Zealand.

The bikes are priced very reasonably at $399 for the mamachari and $499 for the fixies (which can be converted to singlespeed).

The mamachari come with everything you’d expect in a commuter bike – mudguards, chain guard, coat guard, basket – and are mainly single speed. I think I’d want a few gears for Wellington, but at that price adding an internal gear hub would be pretty do-able.

You can find Archi on their website and on Facebook.
